COMPETITIVE TEAM
Train. Compete. Grow.
AGSA’s Competitive Team is for athletes ready to pursue Acrobatic Gymnastics at a higher level. Athletes train and compete in partnerships while developing the strength, flexibility, artistry, trust, discipline, dedication, and technical skills required in the sport.
Our goal extends beyond competition results. We are committed to developing confident, disciplined, dedicated athletes who learn to work toward shared goals, support their partners, and continue growing both in and out of the gym.

The Competitive Experience
Competitive Acrobatic Gymnastics combines individual athletic development with the unique challenge of training and competing as a partnership. AGSA athletes progress through the USA Gymnastics program levels of the sport with training tailored to their skills, partnership, and competitive goals.
PARTNERSHIP & TEAMWORK
Athletes train in pairs or groups, developing the communication, trust, timing, and responsibility required to perform successfully together.
SKILL & PERFORMANCE
Training combines partner skills, tumbling, strength, flexibility, balance, choreography, and artistry to prepare athletes for competition.
COMPETITION
AGSA athletes have opportunities to compete at USA Gymnastics events appropriate to their level and competitive pathway, with opportunities for advancement as they develop in the sport.
Becoming an AGSA Team Athlete
AGSA’s Competitive Team is a tryout-based program for athletes ready to pursue competitive Acrobatic Gymnastics. During tryouts, our coaching staff evaluates each athlete’s skill development, age, training readiness, position, and partnership compatibility. Final team selections and partnership placements are determined based on each athlete’s readiness and the overall needs of the team.

TEAM TRYOUTS
What We Look For
Team tryouts are about more than individual skills. Our coaching staff evaluates the whole athlete, considering factors including, but not limited to, technical ability, physical and mental development, age, training habits, readiness, dedication, and the qualities needed to succeed as part of a partnership.
01
STRENGTH & FLEXIBILITY
Athletes are evaluated on the strength, flexibility, physical, and mental preparation needed to safely progress in Acrobatic Gymnastics.
04
MATURITY & COMMITMENT
Competitive training requires athletes who are ready for greater responsibility, consistent attendance, and increased training demands.
Team placement is never based on one factor alone. Our coaches consider the whole athlete and make decisions with safety, readiness, partnership compatibility, and long-term development in mind.
02
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Coaches consider, body control, execution, air awareness and overall technical development.
05
POSITION & PARTNERSHIP FIT
Because acrobatics is a partnership sport, coaches consider position, age compatibility, and the overall needs of the team when forming pairs and groups.
03
COACHABILITY & WORK ETHIC
Effort, focus, perseverance, consistency, and the ability to receive and apply coaching are an important part of athlete readiness.
06
LONG-TERM DEVELOPMENT
Team decisions are made with each athlete's safety, continued progression, and long-term development in mind.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Team Tryouts at AGSA
Team Tryouts give our coaching staff an opportunity to get to know each athlete in the gym. Throughout the tryout process, athletes train, demonstrate skills, and work with coaches as we evaluate their readiness for competitive Acrobatic Gymnastics.
01 — BEFORE TRYOUTS
AGSA holds its annual Competitive Team Tryouts each summer, typically beginning in July and continuing throughout the month. Exact dates may vary based on our competition and USA Gymnastics National Championship schedule.
Athletes train in the gym while our coaching staff evaluates their skills, strength, flexibility, body control, position, coachability, and overall readiness for competitive training. Coaches may also work athletes in different combinations as they consider potential partnerships.
02 — DURING TRYOUTS
Following tryouts, families are notified of team selections. Athletes selected for Competitive Team are considered for partnerships and training groups based on readiness, position, age, compatibility, and the overall needs of the team.
03 — AFTER TRYOUTS
A Note About Partnership Placement
Selection for the Competitive Team does not guarantee a specific level, position, or partnership. Acrobatic Gymnastics is a partnership sport, and placements are carefully determined by our coaching staff with the development and success of each athlete and partnership in mind.
